gold filled beads

this summer I sort of fell in love with the kind of classic yellow gold filled beads you see trending in necklaces & bracelets again ~ I kept seeing them everywhere. after researching the beads themselves, I decided to make myself one.

even though gold fill process has been around since Egyptian times, the modern process of creating 14k gold filled beads and findings became a thing early in industrial England, allowing many more Victorians access to luxuries associated with the nobility, just not in solid gold.

for similar reasons of scarcity, need and cost, the popularity of gold filled jewelry bounced up again during the World Wars.

the beads I use are made in the USA, and start with a solid core of copper and zinc which is then pressure treated at high temperatures with layers of pure 14k yellow gold.

as a result, the necklaces have a beautiful, rich gold luster and are super durable ~ unlike gold vermeil, this gold doesn't wear away, staying beautiful for decades.

yellow gold itself is wonderful for the immune system as it increases circulation and it is said to offer psychic/spiritual protection from negative energy. maybe that’s why I am drawn to them right now, because things generally seem so uncertain ~ these are obviously pretty different for me ~ no hammers and no forging, but golden armor none the less :)
